The stratification problem

 

To maintain some kind of temperature in the winter, the HVAC system is kicking on frequently because the thermostat measures temperature at floor level. The warm air is rising to the ceiling and the cold air is at occupant level, meanwhile the HVAC system is working overtime to regulate the temperature.
